Continence care is an essential part of your role as a nursing professional, and needs to be undertaken sensitively and competently to ensure any patients who have a bladder or bowel problem are supported to manage it. Use our resources to learn more about continence care.

Many people currently experience unacceptable and avoidable embarrassment and social isolation because of a lack of support to help them manage their problem.

In response to this, and in response to nurses and support workers telling us that they wanted advice and guidance on how to manage patients with continence problems, the RCN in conjunction with the RCN Continence Care Forum and RCNi have developed a comprehensive online resource.

Continence resource

This resource is designed to help you support people who have incontinence or bowel and bladder problems.

The resource is for registered nurses, nursing students, healthcare assistants (HCAs) and assistant practitioners working in any health care setting or specialism.
